One World Taekwondo Foundation inc., is a non-profit organization located in the heart of Harlem and founded on the principle that rigorous martial arts training is a pathway to physical, social, and mental health. Though our programs are based upon the philosophy and practice of taekwondo, we also embrace and promote other forms of martial arts, self-defense education, and healthy lifestyles. Our public objective is twofold: because the sport aspect of taekwondo provides an effective context for the exchange of ideas and cultures, we support and develop tournament athletes at every level - from beginner to elite competitor - as a means to promote peace and understanding through domestic and international competition. We are also committed to maintaining a diverse and multi-ethnic student body and making our programs accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status.
One World Taekwondo Foundation, through its martial arts school Harlem Tae Kwon Do, serves dozens of families of every race, religion and nationality in the Harlem community. The school is as invested in students' minds as it is their martial arts skills. Children?s report cards are reviewed on a quarterly basis, and good academic standing is a prerequisite for taking class; the school even features a computer-equipped homework room. For adults, health and wellness seminars and self-defense classes strengthen family and community ties while improving martial arts skills. Other programs include scholarships, tuition assistance, and international athlete exchanges whose planning is underway.
